Acute Paraparesis due to Aggressive Vertebral Hemangioma. Report of Two Cases and Literature Review

Abstract

Introduction: Aggressive hemangiomas make up 1% of all vertebral hemangiomas. They can produce pain, fractures, deformity and slowly progressive neurological compromise. Different treatment approaches have been described, but optimal management remains unclear. We report two cases of acute paraparesis secondary to aggressive thoracic hemangioma, we describe their treatment and evolution. We carry out a narrative review of the literature on vertebral hemangiomas.
Conclusion: Through early decompression and arthrodesis followed by local adjuvant radiotherapy, we obtained complete neurological recovery and disease control in a medium-term follow-up.
