Focus and Scope

The mission of the Revista de la Asociación Argentina de Ortopedia y Traumatología is the scientific update of this specialty and its objective is to be the representative organ of the scientific activity developed in this Association. The Journal includes research articles, review articles, clinical studies, case reports, updates, postgraduate instruction, and editorials.

Peer Review Process

All original papers submitted go through a preliminary review that establishes whether the paper falls within the scope of the journals’ objectives, editorial policies and guidelines.

The Journal of the Argentine Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology (RAAOT, by its Spanish acronym) has adopted the following procedure to prevent the publication of papers that involve unethical practices such as plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, and segmented publication, among others:

  1. Authors must state that the submitted manuscript (or any of its part) has not been previously published in any other publication.

  1. Authors must also state whether they have published other papers which are a product of the same research project. In such event, authors must state similarities and differences for them to be explored by the Editorial Committee, which is responsible for the final decision on whether misconduct occurred (self-plagiarism, duplicate publication or segmented publication) or whether the manuscript may be accepted for review by the appointed Reviewers.

  1. The RAAOT uses online tools and software to detect cases of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication and segmented publication. The RAAOT uses the software Plagiarism Checker X to check the level of similarity of the articles it receives. Cases of ethics violations should be addressed following the guidelines of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE): https://publicationethics.org/files/Spanish%20%281%29.pdf

Peer review is the standard practice that is thoroughly carried out by the RAAOT. The RAAOT publishes original research papers (which have not been concurrently submitted to another journal), which undergo a double-blind peer review by two or more reviewers, and are related to the diagnosis, treatment and pathophysiology of musculoskeletal diseases and conditions, including basic science and clinical research, as well as case reports.

RAAOT Reviewers are third-parties who are not members of the Editorial Committee or of the Board of Directors of the Argentine Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology.

The RAAOT has an International Scientific Advisory Committee whose members are prominent specialists that collaborate in judging aspects of controversial manuscripts.

Once the potential reviewers have accepted to review a manuscript, a 3-week period is established for them to deliver a report. Upon reception of these reports and based thereon, the Editorial Committee must decide whether to accept the manuscript and provide the authors with the opportunity to revise the manuscript, or to reject it.

Revised manuscripts undergo a new review process by the same reviewers in order to establish if the authors have taken into consideration the suggestions put forward by the reviewers and the Editorial Committee (if applicable) and if they have met the first review requirements. In cases where reviewers disagree in certain aspects, a third reviewer will be appointed to decide. Upon said assessment, the manuscript may be conclusively accepted or rejected. When accepted, the manuscript goes through the final copy-editing and layout editing processes in which the authors will be asked to participate to collaborate with the copy-editing team on any requirements and correcting any potential mistakes.

The Editorial Committee must ensure that the anonymous peer-review process should last no longer than 3 months, whenever possible.

Each year, the RAAOT last annual issue includes the name of the reviewers that accepted to participate in the review processes for the ongoing year.
